About Me
Hi, I’m Uzoamaka (but please call me Amaka!) Orji. I’m a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, licensed in both New York and Pennsylvania. My approach to mental health care is centered around the belief that healing is most effective when it is personalized and deeply collaborative. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, life transitions, and ADHD, always focusing on the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. I take into consideration the complexities of each individual’s life, culture, and experiences, and work with my patients to find the right treatment that aligns with their needs.
I started my journey in mental health when I completed my psychiatric rotation during my senior year of nursing school. This hands-on experience was an eye-opener and ignited my passion for psychiatric care. However, my path to becoming a psychiatric provider was also shaped by my own experiences with anxiety and depression. Like many others, I struggled with the pressure of "having it all together," especially as a healthcare provider. I felt the stigma of mental health firsthand, wondering if my own struggles made me less capable of helping others. But in time, I realized that it was precisely these experiences that made me a better, more compassionate provider. My personal journey has taught me the importance of empathy and the power of truly listening to my patients.
I know what it’s like to need help but not always feel comfortable reaching out. I’m here to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be heard, understood, and supported in your journey toward healing. My background as a first-generation American informs my approach—culturally sensitive care is a key aspect of how I work with my patients, especially those navigating life in multiple worlds. I deeply understand how important it is to be seen for who you are, and to have a provider who respects your experiences and values.
Outside of medicine, I have a love for singing, performing, and comedy. I spent years in an all-women’s community choir, and while I’m no longer in a formal group, I still perform and seek creative outlets in my spare time. I am also an avid sports fan and enjoy the simple pleasures of spending time with family and friends, where humor and connection take center stage.
In my practice, I aim to blend the art of psychiatry with a down-to-earth, compassionate approach. You won’t find me following a “one-size-fits-all” method. Instead, I believe in working alongside you to create a treatment plan that aligns with your individual needs, values, and goals. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, or ADHD, my goal is to help you regain control, find balance, and thrive.
If you're ready to take the next step toward healing, I would be honored to work with you.
